Early Explorers This project was designed to teach the 2nd grade classes at Thomas O’Brien Academy of Science and Technology about four early explorers who traveled to what is now the United States of America. The four explorers, Henry Hudson, Leif Ericsson, Christopher Columbus, and Amerigo Vespucci were represented by individual pages on our web site. Each group of students was expected to learn about one explorer and then present through a poster presentation to their classmates.

We based on project on the research and theories of Constance Mellon Library anxiety Collaboration Information Seeking

Site Highlights The flash cards page was suggested by one of the elementary school faculty. We laid out all 16 vocabulary terms in white boxes and the image switches over to the definitions when you click on it. The colors correspond to each explorer. Henry Hudson being red in particular.

Students presented what they learned along with their partners through a poster presentation. Teachers and myself referred to a rubric while the students presented The students could receive a maximum of 4 points in 3 different areas for a total of 12 points. Assessment
