THE EURO By: Ian D’Souza

Finally, I’m in France!

Wow, its amazing here, but I’m getting hungry… Oh shoot, I forgot money and I don’t even know anything about the currency here! Who are you? I am a wizard, and I am here to teach you about the Euro, Frances currency. Here, come with me.

Alright, since you are from America, lets start out with how much your money is compared to a euro. The conversion is $1= 0.75 Euros. The other way around would be 1 Euro= $1.33. Now lets talk about the history of the Euro. The Euro was introduced in 1999, on January 1 st. After the dollar, it is the second most important international currency. It came in the form of coins and notes in 2002, on January 1 st. It is shared by 17 of the European Union’s Member States. These States include France, Ireland, Finland, Portugal, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, and more. The symbol on the centimes worth 1, 2, and 5 centimes is Marianne. On the 10, 20, and 50 centimes, the French Republic is represented. Finally, liberty, equality, and fraternity is represented on the 1 and 2 Euros coins. The Euro bills have certain colors for each amount. Lets see, the 5 Euro bill is gris, the 10 is red, the 20 is blue, the 50 is orange, the 100 is green, the 200 is yellow, and the 500 is purple. You see, the benefit of using the Euro almost throughout Europe is that you don’t have to worry about changing your currency when travelling. Also, it makes the economy flow a lot smoother. Umm, thanks but all I really wanted was just some money, not all that.

Oh… well here you go then. Merlin’s Beard! Your language is offensive. Oh sorry. OK, well it looks like my work here is done.. See ya!!! Now, how do I speak French? Hello, I’m the wizard of learning how to speak French. Here we go again…
