A Comparison of Heat Flux Through Double- and Single- Paned Windows

Our Experiment: Using a hairdryer, we heated up one side of a single-paned window Both of the surface temperatures were measured using a thermocouple every few seconds until they reached equilibrium temperatures

Our Experiment – continued... This same procedure was repeated for a double-paned window The temperature data obtained was used to compute the heat flux through the two different windows and a ratio was found between the two

Results of Experiment

Solution

Discussion of Results It is clear from the preceding slides that double pane windows are far more thermally efficient than single pane windows.

Conclusions and Recommendations Buy new windows!
