The Internet In short, it looks like Americans’ feelings about the internet are generally positive According to surveys taken in 1999, between 1985 and 1999, the share of Americans who use computers at home or work more than doubled (from 30% to 70%). In 1994 only 18% of Americans had ever used the internet, while by the end of the century that number increased to 64%. Nowadays, virtually all Americans under 60 have at one point used the Internet.

What People Use The Internet for: Most Internet users are using the Internet to find information Entertainment, sports and hobbies most popular (38%) Trailed by current events, travel, and health.

Public Beliefs 90% of Americans believe that science and technology makes their life easier. The computer was rated the number one invention of the 20th century (62%) preceded by the automobile (34%), TV (21%) and airplane (16%). 68% believe the Internet is making life easier, Despite some early worries, Americans don’t think that the use of computers in the workplace displaces workers or depresses wages.
