Finnish Social Security System The Finnish Social Security system is very open and two faceted. Some benefits are residence-based, some employment-based.

Social insurance (Financed by special insurance premiums) Mandatory : - Sickness insurance, Pension insurance laws, Employment Accidents -Voluntary: Unemployment insurance Social allowances -Family allowance. All mothers are entitled, despite of incomes of the family.

Residence-based Social Security Persons, who have a permanent resident in Finland despite of their nationality are entitled to social security benefits. Benefits family allowance student financial aid maternity allowance sickness allowance cash benefits for parents reimbursement of medical expenses unemployment benefit / allowance (non-earnings related) labour market subsidy child care subsidies disability allowance rehabilitation and rehabilitation allowance national pension (non-earnings related) family pension (non-earnings related) pensioner’s housing allowance general housing allowance private day-care and child home care allowance

Maternity allowance Maternity allowance 105 days Parents´ allowance 159 days

Family allowance Family allowance is paid for children under 17 who are living in Finland. Its amount depends on the number of eligible children in the household. Single parents get a supplement for each child Amount 100 – 172 euros per child

Unemployment benefit (23 euros per working day) National Pensions Disabiliy, old-age euros if other pension incomes are less than euros per month.

Employment-based Social Security Earnings-related unemployment allowance (about 60 %) Accident insurance and security against occupational accidents and illnesses ( %) Pension acts for employees, entrepreneurs, public servants, farmers (max 60 %)
