Advanced Technical Writing 2005 Session #2

Today in Class… ► Show-n-tell, your “CSS objects exercise” ► P1 sample files - seeing objects ► Editorial roles for P1  Developmental  User Experience  Production ► P1 ideas…what are you thinking of?

Our CSS objects exercise Take a look at a short but familiar genre…choose one you can see a few examples for easily such as a Job Ad. Break it up into the objects that would have to be defined in a style sheet…don’t worry about the right syntax too much at this point…concentrate on defining objects, attributes, etc.

Editorial Roles for P1 Development Team - responsible for ensuring consistency of articles at the thematic level, suitability for audience, etc.; will decide major content “sections” and guidelines for developing these User-Experience - responsible for the look and feel of the ‘zine; will establish global styles and make decisions about exceptions/changes to these; will create and publish the.css file that authors link to Production Team - responsible for making sure the ‘zine functions; will establish file-naming policies, image size/resolution, and similar; will give procedural guidance to authors about storing files, linking, etc.

Editorial Team Deliverables Development Team - revised full article template w/inline comments guiding authors User-Experience - revised style sheet Production Team - working sample w/ dummy text; short (very short) list of steps/guidelines Development & User Experience Teams should post deliverables by end of class session 4. Production Team, shortly after that.

Next Time… ► Semantic Markup 1 - CSS, XML, & More ► Read: Rockley, Ch. 1 and Ch. 14; Clark (pdf) ► Send to Bill H-D w/ editorial role ack
