The Immigration Law & Policy Clinic What students do: Represent detained juveniles in immigration court. Draft motions, briefs, legal correspondence, closing statements, and direct examination questions. Provide brief consultations at Friendly house to individuals with immigration law questions. Research law and country conditions, interview and prepare experts/witnesses, investigate facts and obtain documentation.

The Immigration Law & Policy Clinic Time Commitments: Students attend a one day training at the start of the semester. Students meet 2x a week (Mon & Wed) for two hours during the first half of the semester for practical training. Each student covers the detained juvenile calendar court at least once. (can be on a Mon or Fri morning) Each student provides consultations at Friendly House on a Friday morning at least once in the semester. Students spend about hrs a week on case related work.

The Immigration Law & Policy Clinic Admission:  Interested students must submit a letter of intent to Professor Cruz by the end of open The letter (not to exceed 3 pgs) must include the following information:  Why the student is interested in participating in the clinic  How participation in the clinic will advance the student’s plans for the future  What the student feels he/she can contribute to the clinic  What his/her anticipated learning goals are  Anything else she/he considers pertinent Logistics:  Enrollment is limited to six students  Second and third years are eligible to apply  The immigration seminar is not required, but students in the clinic are exempt from the limited enrollment provision for that course  Students receive six units of graded credit Admitted students will be notified by April 23 For more information contact: Prof. Evelyn Cruz, Director or
