Credentialing – What is it? Credentialing assures that a person with the CPP designation has:  Completed a peer review process of their candidate portfolio and  Successfully passed the Prevention Specialist Examination

Certified Prevention Professional (CPP) This certification has been developed for substance abuse prevention professionals. Demonstrates mastery of the fundamental skills Applicable across all practice settings Voluntary credentialing in Washington State

CPP Core Competencies  Five Prevention Domains Planning and Evaluation Education and Skill Development Community Organization Public and Organizational Policy Professional Growth and Responsibility

Prevention Education Prereqs 14 hour ATOD education/training 50 hours ATOD prevention education/training 6 hours prevention-specific ethics education/training 10 hours risk and protective factor education/training 70 hours general prevention education/training

CPP Eligibility Requirements Completion of a peer review process of qualifications (Candidate Portfolio) that includes: 2,000 hours of ATOD prevention work experience 150 hours of prevention specific education. Verification of 120 hours supervised experience in the IC&RC prevention domains with a minimum of ten hours in each domain. Signed a prevention specific code of ethics statement Current criminal history background check AND Successfully passed the IC&RC International written Prevention Specialist Examination.

CPP Exam Schedule Exam dates are scheduled four times per year in the months of: March June September December

Apply for CPP Certification A completed application must be postmarked or hand delivered on or before the application deadline, as listed in the following table, to be reviewed and considered for the soonest requested test date. Application DeadlineTest Date December 10, 2008 March 13, 2009 (Friday) March 11, 2009 June 13, 2009 (Saturday) June 10, 2009 September 11, 2009 (Friday) September 9, 2009 December 12, 2009 (Saturday) At the time of application submission, candidate must also include a non-refundable application and examination fee of $200.

CPP Certification and Renewal Requirements  Successful Candidate Portfolio  Pass written examination  Renewed every two years if Renewal fees paid 40 hours of continuing education completed Criminal History Background check provided

CPP Continuing Education 40 Continuing Education Units are required every two years: 20 hours ATOD prevention education 20 hours general prevention education
