AssignPrelim1.2 There are several “short” assignments, covering aspects of grid computing. Each assignment has a detailed write-up describing steps you need to take. (see course home page). AssignPrelim1.3 Assignment 1 This is a critical assignment as it is used to set up accounts. Begins with requesting accounts. Then once account received, getting familiar with the grid portal. Then execute simple jobs on grid.
AssignPrelim1.4 Grid computing portal A grid portal has been established at: for accessing the course grid. The portal provides single sign-on to all grid resources.
AssignPrelim1.5 Assignment 1 (see course home page) Critical you do this assignment, to become a registered user. Follow assignment instructions Go to the registration portlet and submit the required details. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU REGISTER ASAP. It will be used to collect the class list and start the process of setting up accounts.

AssignPrelim1.14 Generally, produce a 5-20 page Word document. (PDF acceptable but not OpenOffice) Include code with comments Brief explanation of code. Show that you successfully followed the instructions and performs all tasks. Take screen shots and include these screen shots in the document. –Number of screen shots is up to you but it should demonstrate your programs worked. –To include screen shots from Windows XP, select window, press Alt-Printscreen, and paste to file. AssignPrelim1.15 For the record, state what programming skills and knowledge you used but already knew before doing this assignment. This information does not affect the grading, but may be helpful in subsequent course developments. Each assignment write-up will specify actual tasks to perform. A presentation will be made prior to each assignment discussing the precise requirements of the assignment.
