Electronic Portfolio Eric Wasserman June 2004

Philosophy Statement It is my belief that all children have the right to an education. It is my belief that the learning process should be fun, thorough, ever-lasting, challenging. In order to accomplish this, I myself must be knowledgeable in all of the subject matter taught. As the class leader, I must make all subjects of study, whether it is academic or interpersonal, exciting, in order to encourage a thirst for knowledge. Everything that that the students are exposed to must have a purpose and must be worth while. Children all have their own way of gaining knowledge, and it is my duty to challenge them and present information in a variety of ways so that all children will have the opportunity to be successful. In a safe, inviting, stimulating classroom, where every child is considered an individual, each child will have the opportunity to become a fully functioning, successful, intelligent member of society.

Exploring Feet,Yards and Miles 4Click here for an informative mathematical exercise exploring the concept of distance, using feet, yard, and mile measurements.concept of distance, using feet, yard, and mile measurements.

Exploring Feet Answer Key Conversion Table: 12 inches = 1 foot 3 feet = 1 yard 1 mile = 1,760 yards 1 yard = miles 1 mile = 5,280 feet Reference: Examples: Feet to Yards 17 feet = X yards 3 feet = 1 yard 3 x X = 17 x 1 3X = 17 X = 17/3 = feet = 5.7 yards Yards to Miles 50 yards = X miles 1 yard = miles x 50 = X 0.03 = X 50 yards = 0.03 miles

Math Jeopardy Lesson Introduction: I will lead the class in a chapter review game. The chapter review covers all of chapter 9. This review is designed to help prepare the students for a cumulative chapter test. Rationale: The students need to review for their math test. This review will serve as a tool for me to gauge how well the class is prepared. The students have all been given the same level of instruction. Objectives: 1) Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of math facts and applications. Assessment:I will validate the children's answers. If they are incorrect, I will show them the correct method to solving the question. 2) Students will be able to demonstrate how they came up with the correct answer to solve trivia questions. Assessment:I will have the students describe to me as well as the class their rationale and then validate the process. Activity:The students will play "Math Jeopardy." I have created questions that directly relate to the information from the text. The game's questions cover information that reflects all of chapter 9. I will explain to the class that it doesn't matter which team wins that game. Everyone wins if they understand the concepts and can do the math required. The students will also be required to do page 424 in their math books. This assignment will serve as another tool that the children will have to help them prepare for the chapter 9 test. Hook: I will begin the day's lesson with a problem of the day. This will help to get the student's minds working and prepare them to take on the challenge of the day, Jeopardy. N.J.C.C.S.: 4.1A, 4.5A,D Closing:I will remind the students that Friday will be their chapter 9 cumulative math test.
