7.5 Double width cloth 1. Concept 2. The main points of designing a double width cloth 3. The main points of weaving plan

1. Concept: Double width fabrics are widely used for industrial purpose, such as paper making blanket. Double width fabric is a kind of double weave which one selvedge is joined. See Fig Fig Construction of double width weave

2. The main points of designing double width cloth (1) Base weave selection: Base weave should be simple, such as plain, twills, and regular satin/sateen, nevertheless, the base weave must meet the requirements of the end product. (2) Arrangement of face and back threads Arrangement in warp way of face and back can be 1:1, 2:2, and usually 1:1 is considered firstly. Arrangement in weft way of face and back must be 2:2.

(3) The first insertion is limitation in direction. See Fig where: The base weave is 1/1 plain. Arrangement in warp direction is 1:1. Arrangement in weft direction is 2:2. A—selvedge cord B—stitching yarn to achieve an evenness selvedge which will be removed after the fabric is woven

3. The main points of weaving plan: (1) The material, count, weave of the face and back should be the same. Therefore, one beam is adaptable to construct the weave. (2) Either one shuttle or multi-shuttle is suitable. (3) Using grouped draft or straight draft. Grouped draft can easily get even tension of warp ends. (4) Selvedge cord is used to achieve the evenness of selvedges.
