Soaring through The Solar System Planet Earth is just a small part of our solar system. Looking outside of one’s self and surroundings awakens curiosity and the formulation of new ideas. Knowing the process of how to solve a mathematical problem will give one the ability to solve similar problems in different contexts. Accumulating knowledge is a never ending process, especially with the advancement in technology. Opportunity Class 4 th -5 th -6 th Mrs. Kat Bahry

Differentiation Resource Be familiar with learning their disabilities. Clarify directions, use examples and visuals. {pictures, videos, objects} Allow student to use other resources such as charts, word books, etc. {K-W-L, charts, Venn diagram, calculator} Allow ample time to complete assignment/activity. G.A.T.E »Be familiar with the areas of interest. {K-W-L, journal} »Use technology for further exploration. {web quest, power point} »Extend lesson with “higher order” questioning. {What if… What can you predict….} Behaviorally Challenged Be familiar with behavior issues, medication and daily cycle. Convey clear/simple directions and expectations. When needed, allow student to work independently in their own quiet space. Acknowledge student’s positive choices throughout the lesson.

National Board In creating this unit, I carefully chose assignments and activities that would incorporate the state standards with good teaching practices under an umbrella of “Big Ideas” that would engage student interest and learning. Taking in consideration the diversity of my class as well as the different learning styles, I diligently collected various lessons and collaborated with other educators to create a comprehensive unit that integrates math with science. I have embedded consistent monitoring throughout the lesson, so I may be cognoscente of student learning and my own teaching practices.
