Student Education: Integrating Hand Washing into Core Curriculum Science: Track germs by studying how they spread using a fluorescent light. Produce a video of an experiment: Oil and water in jar…add dish soap. Math: Create math equations and exercises around how quickly germs would spread under various conditions using a spreadsheet. Social Studies: Use the Internet to research an epidemic from the past and type a paper to discuss how hygiene played a role in the cause or spread. Study and compare different culture’s traditional hygiene practices and create a classroom wiki to share the information. Language Arts: Deliver an informative or demonstrative speech on proper hand washing and record the videos to share with the school. Create Public Service Announcement videos or movies about H1N1 and how to stay safe to share with the school (for added fun, hold a contest).
