Photosynthesis Topic # 2015 Alysa Sanford
Plant Parts Review Parts of the Plant Chlorophyll: The green pigment found in all photosynthetic plants. Chlorophyll is also responsible for the green color of the plants leaves.
What is Photosynthesis? Photosynthesis is the process by which plants use energy from the sun to produce the food they need to survive as well the by-products that we need to survive.
The Equation 6H2O + 6CO2 C6H12O6 + 6O2
The Equation “In Words” 6 Water + 6 Carbon Dioxide Produces Glucose & 6 Oxygen Molecules
Is That All? In order to make the reaction happen you must also have a source of energy. The energy needed for photosynthesis is Sun Light!
Think Of It This Way… In order to have any kind of reaction you need inputs. This is due to the Law of Conservation of Matter: Which states that matter can not be created or destroyed. Our inputs are Carbon Dioxide, Sunlight and Water.
Think Of It This Way… Outputs for this reaction are needed for the basis of plant and human life. The plant used the glucose produced as a food source. They’ve got to eat too! Humans use the oxygen produced to breath and create energy for their own bodies.
What Does It Look Like? SUN ENERGY SUGAR / GLUCOSE CARBON DIOXIDE WATER
Why Is This Important? As human being we can not survive without some essentials. Food Water Oxygen Plants recycle the carbon dioxide we produce and turn it into useable oxygen we need to live.
One Last Thing… On a sheet of paper take a minute to think about the role of photosynthesis in the plant. Write three sentences about why photosynthesis is important for plants and three more sentences on what photosynthesis is important for humans.
