Holidays  Christmas is the most popular time of the year. Christmas Eve is called Heiligar Abend.  Germany’s main holiday is celebrated on October 3 rd, the day of German Unity.  Festive outdoor markets in large cities are opened during the holiday season.

Language  Germans speak German but with different dialects and accents.  Also Germans capitalize all nouns even in the middle of the sentence.  All children learn High German (a standard form) of German used to communicate in business and education.

Religion  Did you know most Germans are Christians?  About a third of them are Roman Catholic, while another third belong to various Protestant churches.  Even today, Catholics live mostly in the south west.

Interesting Facts  Did you know on Germany’s flag there are three strips- red, black, and gold.  Also, some of the worlds greatest composers came from Germany.  Lastly, to wish for good luck, Germans don’t cross their fingers. They press the thumb.
