Dead layer measurements 133 Ba source, d ~ 50 cm from end cap R = (counts in peak 81 keV)/(counts in peak 356 keV) By comparing the measurement with simulations made with different values of the dead layer one can extrapolate the real value of the dead layer (if other details of the geometry are known). Simulations: 0.6mm (nominal value, given by the manufacturer) 1.5mm 2.0mm Result: 1.62 ± 0.08 mm
