COMMUNICATING WITH APPLICANTS

CSU San Marcos welcomes upper division transfer students in campus housing (separate application process required). We welcome applicants for admission from outside our local admissions area; however they should be aware that our priority will be applicants from the local admissions area. If enrollment space remains after local admissions area applicants have been accommodated, other CSU-eligible applicants will be rank ordered. The academic characteristics of the transfer applicant pool will determine the eligibility cut-off for admission or waitlists. CSU San Marcos offers provisional admission based on self- reported information. Applicants must be eligible for admission at the time of application and transfer. Summer 2012 coursework is not considered for eligibility. NEED-TO-KNOW INFORMATION

Selection of major does not impact the admissions decision for applicants to CSU San Marcos; however CSU San Marcos has five academic programs which are impacted at the upper-division level. Business Administration: Applicants admitted as “Pre-Business” and apply to competitive process at Junior standing. Communication: Applicants admitted as “Pre-Communication” and apply to competitive process for program. Kinesiology: Applicants admitted as “Pre-Kinesiology” and apply to competitive process for program options. Mass Media: Applicants admitted as “Pre-Mass Media” and apply to competitive process for program. Nursing/Pre-Nursing (Basic Nursing Program): Applicants admitted to “Pre-Health Sciences” and must meet criteria during first year to be selected for “Pre-Nursing”. Second screening for upper division major occurs after completion of Nursing core classes based upon academic and non-academic factors. IMPACTED PROGRAMS

Educational Opportunity Program (EOP): Meet all admissions deadlines, submit an EOP application by February 15, 2012 and meet minimum EOP criteria. Athletics: Prospective student athletes must contact Cougar Athletics and submit a recruit questionnaire. Admissions Appeals: CSU San Marcos reviews each applicant's record thoroughly. The admissions process is objective, based on each applicant's self-reported academic record and official documents received. Inquiries regarding consideration of special circumstances for applicants with documented disabilities, extenuating circumstances or military obligations may be submitted to OTHER ADMISSIONS PROCESSES
