 Christmas is a great Christian holiday.  It marks in many countries of the world.

 In England Christmas is celebrated on the 25 th of December  Christmas is a family holiday

This holiday is connected with Jesus Christ's birth in the city of Veflieme.

 When the baby was born the bright star had lighted up in the sky.

 Wise men wanted to look at baby Jesus and had brought gifts to him. Since then all people give gifts to each other on Christmas.

 Before the holiday people do careful cleaning in their houses.  There is a green wreath, many colourful bulbs and garlands on a door of each house  In each house there is a decorated fur- tree.

 There is a custom to put gifts in the Christmas stocking. At that time told a fairy tale, that « the Christmas grandfather » travelled by air and got into houses through a chimney.  Going down in one of houses, it has dropped some gold coins in a stocking which have hung up to be dried above the center. Since then in the Christmas Eve on a fireplace began to hang out « stockings in hope, that there something will fall off ».  And now on the eve of Christmas children hang up a Christmas stocking that Santa Claus has filled with its gifts on a fireplace.

 Traditional Christmas dishes in England are the baked turkey with a potato, a sweet pie with a stuffing, the traditional Christmas pudding and a Christmas fruit pie.
