He believed that the young men didn ’ t want to join the army because they were busy taking care of their loved ones. So guess what he did …

Stubborn Valentine & Marius Two stubborn guys: Valentine ( a priest) and his friend Marius decided to disobey emperor Claudius. They performed marriage ceremonies for young couples secretly. What a risk!? Oh no. What a sacrifice for love!?

In Jail No surprise, Valentine and his friend Marius were soon caught and thrown in jail. Their punishment was going to be terrible in order to serve as a lesson to all other persons who wanted to continue acting against the emperor ’ s instructions.

Love in jail While in prison waiting for death Valentine fell in love with a girl who was visiting him regularly. Before his death on February 14 th he wrote a love letter to the girl and signed at the end of the letter: “From your Valentine.”

That ’ s why we celebrate February 14th. In 496 AD, Pope Gelasius set aside February 14 th to honour Valentine who now became considered as a Saint. Hence the name Saint Valentine ’ s Day. From then until this day, February 14 th has been celebrated in all the continents of the world.
