Project Background The idea for the wheelchair canopy is from a design project for a mechanical engineering class A prototype has been made and we would like to patent the design The project is a automatic retractable canopy for a wheelchair that goes from a position folded flat against the back of the chair to an upright position, covering the user from the weather

Project Benefits Protects wheelchair users from the rain and folds away neatly when they are inside We will feature both an electronic and manual version for the two different types of wheelchairs Currently there is one other retractable wheelchair canopy that has been patented and its design does not appear to be as functional or effective as our design

Design Challenges Differentiate project from current patent Refine design o Make it more lightweight and user friendly Make it adjustable for different wheelchair designs
