Today: - Announcements, including LRR - Start your engines - One Minute Reports - Finish up with Orbits - Shut your engines off - Coolers

Announcements: - DD Rev C is due on , cold test results should be in DD C - T – 9 days - Design Expo registrations due , I must sign - Launch start time may move up one hour… - Next class is our Launch Readiness Review - Each team will have 5 minutes

Team Name Launch Readiness Review Team Members Date

User notes –You may reformat to fit your design but make sure you cover the following points –You may want to finalize your Design Document since it will help form your presentation. –This template is the barebones of what is needed.

Mission Overview (30 seconds) –Simply state your mission so everyone remembers what it is

Design Overview (30 seconds) –Should be shown with picture(s) of actual hardware

Test Results (3 minutes) –Prove your project is ready for flight –Heart of your presentation –Show test data (graphs, charts, etc) –Structural tests should be included but equal time should be devoted to mission/science tests (latter should be presented first) –Proof should be shown that you have actually recorded, removed, and analyzed data

Prediction on actual flight results (30 seconds)

Biggest worries/concerns at this point (30 seconds)

RFP/Proposal/Requirement Compliance Matrix (show but do not talk about unless asked)

Announcements: - Next Thursday, we will review all the launch logistics - We will sign up for BalloonSat turn in times on November 14, 2008

Ready For Flight Cards: - Turn in on Friday, during final weigh in

Things to remember: - Camera set to “AV” - RAW image files on SD card is bad, you will see the word “RAW” while booting up - Tape switches on/off - Watch for electrical shorts - Change batteries before flight - Lithium batteries for camera and heater (FLIGHT) - Plan on running your cold test(s) this weekend - DO NOT MAKE BOMBS WITH DRY ICE! - Coolers at the end of class - Reimbursements…

Mission Simulation #1: - Prepare your payloads for launch - Flip switches when told - Let your payload “fly”

One Minute Reports: - Have you ever had a group that was not allowed to fly because of preparedness? - Is the orbit tuner free? - Is it bad to do a test that you already know the answer to? - What happens in the real world if you go over budget? - How many planets does STK have? - Do we only do one cold test? - Do you know everyone’s name yet? - Does the free version have all those cool features? - What are different orbits used for?

One Minute Reports: - On a scale of 1-10, 1 being the easiest, how tough is your final? - How much of our grade will the final be? - How long does the team video have to be? - What is the possibility that the shuttle life will be extended beyond 2010? - McDonalds or Burger King? - Do you have a video of a BalloonSat launch vehicle disaster? - What is ISP again? - How does Pegasus work in mid air? - Where is Windsor?

One Minute Reports: - Camera in our satellite for the cold test? - Presentations on-line? - Can whole team be on chase/recovery? - Are there any other classes like this one? - Could you use the Peagus for astronauts? - Which ones are used for the astronauts? - Why do we want to rebuild rockets from the past when we have come so far from the past? - What is the maximum weight that the balloon will lift? - When do we get CDR’s back? - How do solid fuel rockets continue to burn? example

One Minute Reports: - Final, better to understand lectures or balloonSat stuff? - Why were the Russian shuttles dismantled? Were they flown? - When do we come to you with concerns on our grades? - So even though it speeds up into higher orbits, once it gets there the velocity is actually slower cause it’s further away? - When did you decide you wanted to teach this class and why? - Educational use only vs. company use.

One Minute Reports: - There are rare points in space that appear to be unaffected by gravity; scientists are trying to “stop” satellites at these points. Do you know what these points are called? I think the name starts with an “L”. - Retrograde orbit advantages? - How would you adjust your position in Geo orbit? Texas to China? - Geo other than equator? - How much does it lower our grade if our ballonsat doesn’t work? - How do we get reimbursed?

One Minute Reports: - How do you disconnect a basic stamp and have it still work? - Car pool after the chase? - What is the pressure during the flight? - What other issues should we be thinking about before we can relax?

One Minute Reports: - What is the fastest speed ever reached by a spacecraft? Helios (German solar probes) Two West German space probes launched by NASA and designed to study the Sun and interplanetary medium from within the orbit of Mercury, as close as 45 million km (0.3 astronomical unit) to the Sun. Both were launched from Cape Canaveral by Titan IIIE rockets, reached speeds of up to 250,000 km/h (150,000 mph) in their orbits around the Sun.

Mission Simulation #1: - While we wait…

Mission Simulation #1: - Let’s read the data…
