SOUTH JERSEY TECH PARK ROWAN UNIVERSITY WIND POWER ASSESSMENT SOUTH JERSEY TECH PARK ROWAN UNIVERSITY BJORN WESPESTAD RYAN WATKINS

NJ ANEMOMETER LOAN PROGRAM Funded by NJCEP/NJBPU Facilitate assessment of wind resources for residential, farm and commercial applications NJ has one of most aggressive incentives for renewable energy in U.S.

NJ ANEMOMETER LOAN PROGRAM GOALS Increase awareness and understandability of renewable energy potential Purchase, test, & install 30-meter mast outfitted with anemometers throughout southern NJ Free wind analysis for 1 year to estimate wind turbine paybacks for customers

NRG TILT-UP MASTS CHARACTERISTICS Steel tube with flared sections Guy lines in four directions maintain stability No land disturbance Commercial product Similar masts are currently being used in Elmer and Salem, NJ

NRG TILT-UP MAST SPECIFICATIONS Provided by NRG Systems

NRG TILT UP MAST INSTALLATION Mast is tilted up from ground w/ gin pole and a small winch Lifting of tower is done with set of guy wires attached to gin pole Baseplate is hinged: gin pole and tower can pivot to erect mast Masts are stabilized with guy wires attached to screw – in anchors suitable for many soils

NRG TILT-UP MAST INSTALLATION Provided by NRG Systems

Eachus Tower Data

SITE CHARACTERISTICS Rowan-owned open farmland High point of property likely to have maximum wind speeds

ANCHOR SELECTION Screw-In Anchors Provided by NRG Systems EXISTING SOIL TYPE Provided by NRG Systems

SOIL CHARACTERISTICS Soil Type - SacB, AugB, AvsC, DocB, WeeB Provided by NRCS

SOIL TYPES Map Unit Name Map Unit Symbol AugB Aura sandy loam, 2 to 5 percent slopes AvsC Aura-Sassafras loamy sands, 5 to 10 percent slopes DocB Downer loamy sand, 0 to 5 percent slopes SacB Sassafras sandy loam, 2 to 5 percent slopes WeeB Westphalia fine sandy loam, 2 to 5 percent slopes

CONCLUSION Anemometers available No long term impacts to site Rowan can demonstrate support for the use of renewable energy in Tech Park Create electric power Meet key component of Rowan sustainability initiative
