NSF final review report Over the ten years, PEER has mobilized a formidable, multi-disciplinary, intellectual group and melded this into a powerful team with a common purpose. As a result, PEER has taken the emerging performance-based earthquake engineering (PBEE) concepts of the late 1990’s and has developed them into a practical integrated framework, supported by a wide portfolio of tools.

NSF final review report The PEER leadership team has been exemplary in guiding the Center to its success. This was evident in the strong esprit-de-corps amongst all PEER members and through the authoritative set of summary presentations. The latter seamlessly conveyed a coherent and readily understandable picture of what is a radical new paradigm for a notoriously conservative industry.

NSF final review report Follow-on funding commitments totaling $11.4m from the State of California, Caltrans, PG&E, the University of California and other stakeholders will underpin PEER’s longer term continuation. Its relationships with the California Seismic Safety Commission (CSSC) and with city governances should enable PEER to grow its influence on public policy and decision making.

NSF final review report PEER has, in its ten years of effort, developed a productive, sustainable partnership with industry, government agencies, and professional engineering associations in research, education and technology transfer.
