METROPOLITAN SUMMER DAY CAMP

Presented By: Nicholas Amado- College of Staten Island Nancy Chan- Hunter College Jackie Grillo- Kingsborough College Nicole Porcelli- St. Francis College

Purpose of Metropolitan Baptist Summer Day Camp:  Fun and safe environment for children  Place for children to improve academically and learn to get along with other children through recreation and various activities  A way for our church to minister to our community

Blast from the Past:  Metropolitan Summer Day Camp had been running for 11 years  Lorraine Byrnes was the coordinator of the camp for all those years  Summer 2007 was the last year that the camp ran  Due to the fact that deadlines could not be met on time there was no Summer Camp 2008

PRESENT  In Fall 2008 our group decided that we would try to make the camp operational for Summer  In hopes of reaching this goal, we asked adults who were familiar with the policies to assist us. These adults became our mentors.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS  As a group we learned how to do research. Components of research were:  Administration  Creation of fliers  Outreach  Agenda planning  Leadership skills were learned along with taking responsibilities

REALIZATIONS  After looking into administration, making fliers and agendas, there was still a lot to do. Such as:  Training for staff members including first aid training, RTE training, and camp procedures.  Field Trip arrangements needs to be done by first week of June  Food Services: Making arrangements, to pick up and drop off lunches.

LESSONS LEARNED  Underestimation of time frame needed to start up the camp.  Lack of experience.

WHAT’S NEXT  Everything that we learned and accomplished this year will aid us in the opening of Metropolitan Baptist Church Summer Day Camp 2010.

CONCLUSION What did we learn?  Team Work  Leadership Skills  Time Management  Prioritizing  Organizational Skills
