Research and Education at Energy Engineering Phone , Fax , Luleå University of Technology, SE Luleå, Sweden, Advanced gas turbine cycles including cogeneration plants for biomass fuels; Environmentally benign small and medium scale heating and/or cogeneration systems using biomass; Energy efficient processes and process integration for heavy industries and municipal applications; Sustainable energy systems including renewable energy utilization, greenhouse gases mitigation technologies Fundamental studies on thermal sciences and computational energy science and technologies, including two-phase flow reactors in energy applications, CFD applied to fluid dynamics, heat transfer and combustion, and thermodynamic properties of working fluids. We provide various courses for students covering both fundamental energy science and applied technologies. Cooperation with the industry in the education is mainly through the final projects of the M.Sc and B.Sc. We also participate in public arrangements related to energy and environment issues and contribute expert views on technical issues related to energy planning for towns and communities in Northern Sweden. Staff at Energy Engineering Prof. Jinyue Yan, Head of Division Prof. Björn Kjellström Dr. Jan Dahl, senior lecturer Dr. Roger Hermansson, senior lecturer Dr. Lars Westerlund, senior lecturer Dr. Kenneth Möllersten, post doc Monica Sandström, secretary Björn Lundqvist, Engineer PhD students: Gunnar Eriksson, PhD student Elisabeth Ilskog, PhD student Lars Johansson, PhD student Gudrun Keikkala,PhD student Mikael Larsson, PhD student Sylvain Leduc, PhD student Jenny Lindberg, PhD student Joakim Lundgren, PhD student Steven Zeng, PhD student External PhD students in cooperation with other institutions: Lin Gao, PhD student Francis Nturanabo, PhD student Esbjörn Pettersson, PhD student Al-mas Sendegaya, PhD student Henrik Wiinikka, PhD student Courses MTM023 Heat and Mass Transfer MTM029 Fuels, Combustion and Gasification Technology MTM033 Experimental Methods MTM039 Thermal Turbo-machinery and Process Equipment MTM044 Energy Plant and Systems Engineering MTM045 Applied Mechanics in the Paper- and Pulp Industry MTM079 Nuclear Power Engineering MTM080 Internal Combustion Engines MTM0XX Simulation of Energy Processes MTM0XX Sustainable Energy Systems MTM431 Energy Engineering MTM436 Turbo Machinery MTM437 Heat and Air Conditioning Systems MTM438 Project Course MTM439 Applied District Heating Technology MTF096 Physics I MTF096 Physics Lab Final Degree Project Research and Education at Energy Engineering focuses on increasingly important issues for energy technologies /systems and their environmental impacts. Most of the projects include cooperation with an industrial partner by co-funding or joint R&D. We have coordinated and participated in several European Union’s joint projects as well as national projects. The research activities are carried out by computer simulations, laboratory and on-site experiments in cooperation with industry. In particular, research at Energy Engineering encompasses following subjects:
