Objective Teach basics of EXCEL Teach math concepts Integrate math concepts into Excel spreadsheet Integrate other subject areas

And, try to make it interesting

The Students Eighth Graders Generally little or no previous computer experience No prior experience with spreadsheet software

Resources Only one computer in the classroom, on the teachers desk. Accessibility to a computer lab with 25 computers.

Standards Instructional –Build new mathematical knowledge through problem solving –Solve problems that arise in mathematics and in other contexts –Monitor and reflect on the process of mathematical problem solving.

Standards Reasoning and Proof –Make and investigate mathematical conjectures –Develop and evaluate mathematical arguments and proofs.

Standards Connections –Recognize and use connections among mathematical ideas. –Recognize and apply mathematics in contexts outside of mathematics.
