Office of Water Water Quality Exchange Pilot

Purpose To Establish a platform/software independent data exchange format for ambient water quality and biological data, and To Provide an additional data pathway, using EPA’s Central Data Exchange (CDX) Portal between data generators and EPA

The Pilot Phase 1 Use ESAR data elements to build a single, reasonable, workable standard Create definitions, business rules, and valid values (as appropriate) for each data element Assign XML tag to each element Based on business rules, build XML data exchange schema(s)

The Pilot Phase 2 Establish CDX Portal presence Develop internal (inside EPA) data stream and context validation procedures Develop receiving data base Develop change, and delete functionality Development extract, transform, and load (ETL) interface from receiving data base to current STORET Warehouse

The Pilot Architecture OW and OEI joint project Exercises all components of EPA’s Enterprise Architecture –Central Data Exchange (CDX) Portal and Identity Management –Environmental Data Registries (EDR) for schema validation –Enterprise Architecture for receiving data warehouse/mart Implement over the next 12 months
