“Bin the Bin” Iniatitive FACILITIES AND PROPERTY MANAGEMENT

“Bin the Bin” replace the standard desk-side bins used by each employee with recycling points, close to each set of desks Staff and students need to make a little more effort to dispose of rubbish When staff take time to walk short distance to the bin they are more likely to sort the waste correctly Recycling waste is removed free by local authorities, landfill costs us between £80 and £180 a tonne disposal FACILITIES AND PROPERTY MANAGEMENT

Adopted by other universities, including: –LSE –Liverpool –Manchester –Anglia Ruskin –Roehampton –East London –South Bank FACILITIES AND PROPERTY MANAGEMENT

Benefits: Minimise the amount of desk side bin liners being thrown away Improve the quality and volume of recycled material Reduce the amount of waste going to landfill or incineration Drive down cleaning costs Reduce landfill tax and costs
