Quantitative inventory of Particles & Processes Phone conference 21/1 -04 Rikard Sandström Geneva University

Setup I have been using the current CVS version of G4MICE to look at what particles are handled by MICESteppingAction, and what process they are assigned to in that step. Hence, I get a 2D array with rows = particle cols = process entry = total number of this type of step In this presentation I give a first look at what we have for detOnly for both SciFi and TPG. I could not simulate in ”Full” (Normal) mode since, there is a problem at runtime with what I think is the reference particle. The code is not in CVS.

Example of output Refnr: 1 Date: 20/1-04 Mode: detOnly Det:TPG Muons:9000 Background:no Physlist:CVS Notes:after appr 4000 muons 2 looping particles for each 1000 muons *** Statistics file, particles and processess *** * Row: 1=mu+, 2=mu-, 3=e+, 4=e-, 9=proton, 10 = neutron, 11=pi+, 12=pi-, 13=pi0, 14=kaon+, 15=kaon-, 16=kaon0, 17=gamma, 18=deuteron, 19=triton, 20=alpha, * Row: 21=Pb207, 22=Pb208, 23=C12, 24=N14, 25=Al27 * Col: 1=Transportation, 2=MuIoni, 3=eIoni, 4=msc, 5=eBrem, 6=compt, 7=MuBrems, 8=hIoni, 9=LElastic, 10=inelastic

First observations TPG differs from SciFi in the following way (detOnly): muon+less transportation, but more ionisation (expected) e+more transportation, less ionisation & bremsstrahlung e-slightly more transportation, slightly less ionisation neutrinosno neutrinos in either detector p+much more protons, especially transportation nmore transportation pi+much more transportation, more ionisation pi0much more transportation, no decays in either detector K+much more transportation, no decays in either detector gammamuch more gamma transportation, but same compton deuteriummuch more transportation, no decays in either detector tritonmuch more transportation, no decays in either detector alphano alpha (which SciFi has) Pb207less Pb208much more C12much more Alsome, but none in SciFi

First observations (cont) In order to reduce the large number of transportation processes in the TPG I have tried to run with only one gas-slice in the active region: Up to one magnitude less transportation processes. A small increase in all other processes. I have also added particle definitions for pi’s, K’s, n and anti-p, but that changes nothing. Processes remains to be added.

Next step Full MICE setup once bug fixed Implement all particles and processes we need according to theory A more qualitative analysis that just numbers. Energy thresholds?
