Scale Models Math and Their Connections

What are Scale Models?  Scale is the ratio of size of the model to the size of the prototype.  A model is usually the smaller object, usually built to scale, that represents in detail another, often the prototype.

What are Scale models used For?  Toys  Souvenirs  Models  Maps  Replicas  Math

What does math have to do with Scale Models?  Division  Multiplication  Percentages  Measurements  Equalities  Applying Principles

An Example An Example What is the length from the front of the weight to the middle of the real axle? The length from the front of the weight to the middle of the rear axle is inches.

Let’s Do the Math  What would be the length from the front of the weight to the middle of the axle for a model tractor built to a 1/64 scale?  The length is inches.  Is this correct with our model that we have with us?

Scales Models in Review  Scale is the ratio of size of the model to the size of the prototype.  A model is usually the smaller object, usually built to scale, that represents in detail another, often the prototype.  Scale models are used for many things such as toys and maps.  Many principles of mathematics apply to building and constructing scale models.
