Summary England, A.D “(“In the midst of life comes death.” How often did our village priest preach those words. Yet I have also heard that “in the midst of death comes life.” If this be a riddle, so was my life.)” (Avi, Avi. Crispin. Scholastic, Print. ) For Crispin, his adventure starts with his mother funeral and has no name. He was called “Asta's son” and fled from his town to escape John Aycliffe. John Aycliffe was in charge when owner of the manor was gone. So his job was to make sure everyone is working. Life is not too great for Crispin being a peasant and not even having a real name or at least not yet. On his travels he is declared a “wolfs head” and is now a wanted criminal for a crime he never committed.
Summary On his travels he meets a man named Bear who is a traveling performer who takes care of him. They travel to many different towns where the effects of the middle ages and the plague are taking a toll. Crispin becomes Bears servant. They end up traveling to Great Wexly, which bear had been before. They walk into the Green Man Tavern. Bear is apart of a rebellion to the system and is trying to free everyone from slavery. This gets him arrested later on where Crispin goes in after him to save him. Bear has stand off with John Aycliffe, winning they exit the city and from then on Crispin had his freedom and his name.
Protagonist Crispin —the main character Asta—Crispin’s mother Father Quinel—the priest Bear-traveling juggler who is planning a revolt on the kingdom and becomes a mentor to crispin.
Antagonist John Aycliffe—the steward Lord Furnival- The lord of the land and Crispins father. Lady Furnival- greedy wife of Furnival and wants all his children to “Dissapear” so she can keep all the wealth.
