EMS Research North Shore Fire Dept Several cities also needed to review (legally) the research project before allowing their city employees (paramedics) to assist with this research study as part of a risk management review.

EMS Research York (Wellspan Hospital) In 2009 the National Emergency Care Enterprise: Advancing Care Through Collaboration: Workshop Summary was released and it included a panel discussion on ways to enhance Emergency Care Research. 1. Engage multiple providers (non-medical and medical) 2. Create data linkages and informatics 3. Identify regulatory barriers 4. Build a strong research system that is ongoing 5. Focus on how research outcomes affect the patient

EMS Survey #2 Lexington-Fayette County Fire Dept 2 EMS departments required Human Subjects Protection training for EMS providers prior to the RAMPART study yet 66.7% of departments reported having collaborated with a local university to enroll EMS patients into research projects.

EMS Survey #2 The barriers listed for EMS providers included: interest in the subject, manpower, consistent training, continuity of understanding by personnel, cost of training, and logistics of implementation. Also funding for training and internal departmental research personnel were cited several times. Grady Health System

EMS Survey #2 West Allis Fire DeptGreenfield Fire Dept Barriers for EMS administration included buy in from each level – chief to provider, funding for an internal research person, staffing, and education, increased workload with many studies.

Train the Trainer Palo Alto Fire Dept 1 st patient enrolled South San Francisco Fire Dept Demographics of our EMS Depts: Total Yearly Run Volume – 1,465,208 # of Paramedics Trained - 4,314 Total # of Departments - 35

Train the Trainer San Mateo Fire Dept Depts varied logistically: most use hospital pharmacies, several use station distribution most are ALS ambulances, several are ALS engine companies or tiered response vehicles most have placed the study box in the “first-in” bag but several have state requirements that specify a “locked” cabinet in the ambulance

Train the Trainer 15 flights –No baggage lost –No missed flights –28 bags of peanuts –4 cookies 2 drive (Lexington and Henry Ford) –I-75 ended before my GPS did in Detroit Redwood City Fire Dept
