Objectives Read and interpret basic citations. Locate books and articles using evidence found in citations.

2006 UW Libraries Research Workshops Why do I want to do this? To avoid “giving up” on a source (or even a topic) just because it’s not on a computer screen in front of you. Don’t reinvent the wheel! –Many of your research projects will build upon the work of others. If someone has already done extensive research on a topic or question, use it.

2006 UW Libraries Research Workshops What’s a citation? A citation is a brief description of one specific information source. It includes enough information to allow a reader to find the exact source. It usually appears in a bibliography, list of references, or a research database. It may appear in a number of different formats, but each will display the same information.
