CHA1 Mobile Commerce Digital Meeting Support System Presented by Hung Lau Yung, Simon Ip Tak Shun, Alan Siu Po Wa Power Advised by Prof. Samuel T. Chanson Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Final Year Project 2002  2003 Oral Presentation

Overview  Introduction – Motivation – Objectives – Background information – Problem encountered  Results – System Structures – Communication Interfaces – Digital Meeting Support System (DMSS)  Conclusions – Major achievement – Future Extension

Introduction  Motivation : – Interest in building up Mobile device application – Business demand  Objective – Implement a stable, secure, and efficient system – support face to face & remote meeting – Message exchange, slide show, text editing  Background information – Device: Pocket PC – Languages: EVC++, JAVA  Problem encountered – Design Problem (Platform, architecture, security, protocol, UI) – Implementation Problem (hardware, software)

Results – DMSS Infrastructure

Results – DMSS Internal Architecture Shared Text Editor Meeting room Syn. Slide Viewer To Document Server To MSS DMSS client program on PDA

Results - Communication Interface  Reason for having two interfaces  Functions of Two interfaces design – Allow implement application programs with EVC++ – Allow communication between DMSS and servers  Short interfaces communication time – Less than 3 ms  Easy to extend – Separate application layer and network layer EVC++ Communication Interface Java Communication Interface Application request Message from MSS

Results - Meeting Room  Functions: – Exchange message – Review message history  Other feature: – Sound

Results - Shared Text Editor  Purpose: – to enable a group of user to view the same document – to allow user to modify the content – to allow highlighting of sentence  Design: – Document loading and saving – Direct editing – Copy, Paste, Cut and Undo – Synchronization – Highlighting

Results - Slide Viewer  Show slides  Draw on slide  Set pen style – Colour – Thickness – Line style

Results - Slide Viewer (cont’d)  Synchronize Slide – Slide – Pen stroke  Load Slide – From Document Server Presenter Other users

Results – Document Loading  Document Server -Document submitter -Conversion: Text -> XML and PPT -> JPEG  Document Identifier  Download Text Document  Download Slides  Advantage of resizing by server: -Faster resizing speed -Speed up transmission time -Cache available

Results - Group Management & Permission Control  Group management – Keep a member list – Determine current chairperson, slide presenter and text editor  Permission Control – Chairperson controls all the permissions – Synchronize text and slide – Allows chairperson to kick member  Chairperson Centralized Design – Centralize permission setting – Easy implementation

Conclusion  Major Achievement – Integrated meeting system – Secure meeting environment – Save paper work – Encourage computerization in Office  Future Extension – Personal Area Network (PAN) – Real time voice/video conferencing  Q&A Session – Please feel free to ask Questions. PAN
