Social Bookmarking & Research What Delicious can do for you

Social Bookmarking Social bookmarking allows web users to save, organize and share their bookmarks of web pages on the Internet (vs. their own computers) Social bookmarking sites: Delicious, Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon

Delicious Delicious (formerly del.icio.us, pronounced "delicious") is a social bookmarking web service for storing, sharing, and discovering web bookmarks. The site was founded by Joshua Schachter in 2003 and acquired by Yahoo! in (You need a Yahoo ID to login) By the end of 2008, the service claimed more than 5.3 million users and 180 million unique bookmarked URLs.

Delicious Delicious organizes articles based on user-generated tags Like Twitter and Wordpress, tags users can tag with freely chosen index terms Delicious has a "hotlist" on its home page and "popular" and "recent" pages, which help to make the website a conveyor of Internet memes and trends.

Delicious By default, bookmarks are public, though you can tag privately as well Add-ons for Firefox and other web browsers make it easy to bookmark sites on Delicious

Six reasons to use Delicious Branching Out and Connecting with Others: Because this is a social bookmarking site, it means you can see what other people have tagged as well. For example, if you’re interested in blogging, tennis or digital photography, you can search any of those tags, and see what others have bookmarked as their favorites for those particular topics. Colleagues or members of a project team could all agree to bookmark sites using a specific tag that makes sense to them. Then when any member of the team finds a useful resource, they can tag it and you’ll all be able to see it. That avoids having to send out an to everyone with the link.

Six Reasons to Use Delicious You can set up subscriptions for specific tags and track what others save using that tag. This enables you to stay pretty current on a particular topic. You can add other people with similar interest to your network (and they can add you) and you’ll be able to easily see what they save. You have to know what their name is on Del.icio.us before you can add them, but it’s not that hard to find out, once you start watching for tags on a particular topic.

Six Reasons to Use Delicious It’s a great site to just SURF – it’s interesting and easy to see how many other people have saved a particular item. While the contents of your page can generally be viewed by anyone, you have the option to mark something as private if you don’t want anyone else to see it.
