OPERA Emulsion-Counter Hybrid Experiment Large Scale Emulsion film production is the key to establish the experiment. Need Strong Collaboration with Fujifilm

Overview of the Fujifilm – Nagoya Collaboration for OPERA 1997 Started the Study of Gel dilution (Nishiyama)- (Kotaka, Teraoka) 1998 Started the Study of Machine coating Film Production and Refreshing FUJI NAGOYA KANAZAWA Yuji NAKAMURA M. (Nishiyama,Kuwabara)- (Fukuda,Nada) 1999 July Succeeded to produce machine coated emulsion film in the real production line.→ Realize OPERA

2001 May Succeeded to realize Refresh-able Emulsion (Kuwabara) - (Taku NAKAMURA, Uetake) Start the R&D of Refreshing Facility 2003 Jan Started construction of Refreshing facility 2003 Apr Started OPERA film Mass production 2003 Nov Started Refreshing 2004 Dec First shipment of Refreshed Emulsion film to Gran Sasso Overview of the Fujifilm – Nagoya Collaboration for OPERA

Amount Already Shipped : Bricks (Reference: Full installation : 64 x 52 x62 Wall = Bricks) Under treatment: Bricks Films under investigation: Treated at the early stage of Refreshing Facility: ~ 2770 Bricks (High Fog and Low GD) Not refreshed but at GS: 890 Bricks (Will be refreshed at GS?? ~4 weeks Job) Others Films for PEANUT : 360 bricks Films for Test experiments : ~ 70 bricks Films for BAM : ~ 200 bricks Wasted by troubles etc ~ 30Bricks Process Monitoring films ~ 100 Bricks

Summary We have not yet finished the Refreshing, but we are approaching to the “Goal”. (March 2007) I wish to express special thanks to the People of Fujifilm working with us. especially KANAZAWA-san We, all Nagoya people working on Emulsion Film R&D and Production Job, are happy to hear that the BAM started the Brick production and will install all of our films until the Spring of 2007.
