During year 2 of the Catalyst Initiative: The Catalyst Web site logged almost 1.7 million page views, an increase of more than 300%. Educators registered as Catalyst Toolkit owners at a rate of 3.3 per day, up from 1.8 the previous year. Almost 16,000 unique students used Catalyst Tools for learning during January 2001, surpassing the prior year’s high by 9,000 students.

And more... Catalyst workshop attendance climbed 35% to 948. Catalyst outreach efforts reached over 900 campus educators and staff. Drop-in visits to the CTLT remained high at The Catalyst Initiative reached 91% of academic departments.

The Catalyst Website

Catalyst Web Site… Redesigned for 2000!

New content on Catalyst 3.0: New “learning” pages with online workshop materials. New “profiles” highlight educators who use technology to enhance learning in large lecture classes. The “Home Page” now allows one-click access to our most popular resources. We’ve expanded support for Catalyst Web Tools to include best practices.

Web site statistics: 1.7 million page views, up 300% from the previous year. 40.5% of Website usage takes place from 5 pm-9am when the CTLT is closed.

Catalyst Web Tools

New Catalyst Web Tools… Our original toolkit: WebQ Umail E-submit PeerReview v1.0 New in 2000: EPost iSubscribe PeerReview v2.0 QuickPoll

One-to-One Consulting

One-to-one help in the CTLT: We helped over 1,700 instructors in We expanded our facilities to include digital video production.

Plans for the Future

“Partnered” content: PETTT: Publish studies of unique learning environments on Catalyst. Digital Libraries Initiative:Deliver CONTENT software through Catalyst. Educational Outreach:Build out guides for creating distance learning classes.

New content: Improved “Teaching” Section The new Teaching pages will provide specific help for a variety of learning environments, from large lectures to distance learning classes. Support for multimedia content How To guides will take you through every step in creating streaming media.

New Web Tools

MyClass integration: We are working to integrate Catalyst Tools into the “MyClass” project. Instructors will be able to create tools, get class lists, and create Web pages from one simple interface.

SimpleSite: This tool allows instructors to create course Web sites without Web editing software or FTP programs. Only a Web browser is needed.

This tool creates an online collaborative learning environment where students work on problem-based projects. VirtualCase:

Soon, many of our tools will allow instructors to create images that can be directly manipulated on the Web. Dynamic images: Students can even “draw” answers on the Web.

On the horizon: Synchronous chat and community- building tools. WebQ v3.0 with more interactivity and feedback. Online data collection and manipulation tools.

Speed boost: As of March 5 th, 2001 our tools are running on a new server that makes them significantly faster than they were before. We are also working on some software changes that will increase the speed even further.
