The Skeleton The skeleton is formed of bones + Ligaments + Tendons + Joints of the body . The skeleton is formed mainly of bones .
The Skeleton Axial Appendicular Skeleton Skeleton = = -Skull Limbs = = -Skull Limbs -Vertebrae & -Thoracic cage Girdles -Hyoid bone
The Skull The skull is formed of 22 bones. The mandible is the most mobile one of the skull bones. The other bones articulate together by fibrous joints .
The Thoracic cage The thoracic cage includes the ribs & sternum . There are 12 pairs of ribs . The sternum is formed of 3 parts .
The Sternum The sternum is formed of : 1- Manubrium sternai 2- Body of the sternum 3- Xiphoid process
The Vertebrae ( vertebral Column ) The Cervical vertebrae are 7 The Thoracic vertebrae are 12 The lumbar are vertebrae 5 The Sacrum are vertebrae 5 The coccyx is rudimental
The Vertebra The vertebra is formed of : -Body = Centrum - 2 Pedicles - 2 Laminae - 2 Transverse processes -Spine The vertebral canal = spinal canal
The Shoulder Girdle The pectoral ( shoulder ) girdle connects the upper limb with the axial skeleton. The shoulder girdle includes the clavicle & the scapula .
.The hand Bones of the upper limb The hummers = bone of the arm The radius = the lateral bone of forearm The ulna = the medial bone of forearm The Carpals = 8 bones ( bones of the wrist ) .The hand
HUMERUS
The Pelvic Girdle The pelvic girdle is formed of 2 hip bones + Sacrum. The 2 hip bones are connected together anteriorly by the symphysis pubis which is a cartilaginous joint .
Bones of the lower limb The femur = bone of the thigh The tibia = the medial bone of leg The fibula = the lateral bone of leg The tarsal bones are 7 The other bones of the foot
