Magazines

Historians value Provide insight into prevailing attitudes and changes in attitudes over time Provide a narrative of events Provide variety of different views since many publications are written with a particular political bent and for a specific audience Generally available in many libraries and often with indexing

Using Magazines Limited to modern history  Most popular magazines date only from the 19 th century when literacy rates climbed May be difficult to use  May not have good indexing  Many articles will be short and may not provide in-depth coverage of a topic In the UW Libraries  Some issues may be in storage, in Special Collections or on microfilm
