Premise Young couple, enters a castle where they discover monster-like creatures holding the annual Transylvanian Convention. The couple are separated and experience many bizarre encounters. Once together again they are forced to participate in a Cabaret before being set free.

Review No outstanding plot or acting A mix of sci-fi, horror, and both rock and roll and traditional musical genres The picture’s characters act as referents to characters in other, older films. Sight gags and song lyrics also draw on other movies. The film presents a clever synthesis of thematic, visual, and verbal elements which, with a good deal of parody and satirize accepted cinematic and societal Conventions

The Film Not made with the intention of being a Cult Film Risen to Cult Film status Shown around Halloween and at Midnight on Friday and Saturdays in college towns People get dressed up and bring props

The Props Rice Newspapers Water Pistols Flashlights Rubber Gloves Noisemakers Confetti Toilet Paper Toast Cards

Fan Participation Call for camera cuts and character actions Ask questions of the characters, respond to the characters’ comments, and add lines to the film’s dialogue “Help” the characters-by providing flashlights to show the way on a dark, rainy night Add their own special effects, such as hurling toast when a toast is proposed in the film, or squirting one another with water pistols in the rain sequence. The audience members for Rocky Horror interact as much with each other as they do with the characters and action on the screen

Concepts Mythscape Active Audience Bennett Camp (Deliberate Camp) Sontag Conventions Becker
