Modeling and Evaluation

Evaluation Existing systems Meeting with users Merging views

View Integration Exercise Gather perspectives from users (assume none are complete) Lots of decisions when integrating –Integration strategy – one after another or all at once? –Resolving conflicts Dependency Key behavioral –Conformation of schemas – often requires more info than originally gathered

What is a good system? Currency Timeliness Completeness Accuracy Response time Retention Security

Formative db evaluation Qualities –what is important? Metrics –How will the qualities be measured? Weightings –Attempts to deal with tradeoffs –How important is this quality? Strategies for improvement/refinement –How will you improve the model? –Watch out for interactions between qualities

Group discussion Divide into roles (DBA, CIO, CSR, actuarial analyst, customer) What makes a good database? Are there qualities you all agree on? Are there qualities you disagree on? Are there differences in ranking or importance?
