Guidelines for Success

Students are expected to meet at teacher designated areas at the beginning and end of class.  1. Students are allowed five minutes to dress after start of class.  2. As soon as you are dressed, report to your meeting area until further instructions.

 Students must have a complete change of clothes separate from their school clothes, consisting of an athletic top, shorts/sweats, socks and sneakers. All attire must adhere to school dress codes.  During the Dance unit, at least ¾ length sweatpants are recommended.  Shirts that can be tucked in are required.  Appropriate swimwear (one piece swimsuits for girls), is required during swimming. Swim caps are required as per school rules. Sunscreen and swim goggles are suggested.  When a change of clothes is not available students will still be expected to participate.  Participating without a change of clothes will result in lowered daily grade.  Lost/misplaced items to be reported to teacher after an adequate search.

 Students are expected to be at their meeting area 5 minutes after period starts. Students with tardy passes will be excused.  Unexcused tardies will result in a lowered daily grade.  Tardies will be handled as per student handbook.

 It is understandable that there are times when a student cannot participate in physical education class.  Students unable to participate shall bring a note from a parent, guardian, or doctor indicating limitations and capabilities. The teacher may provide a modified program accordingly.

 Showers are a mandatory part of P.E. for basic hygiene. Ten minutes will be provided at the end of each class for showers/changing.  Not showering adequately will result in lowered daily grades.

 Appropriate student behavior is vital for physical & emotional safety.  Students are expected to be responsible and lock all personal items in their own P.E. lockers. Sharing is not permissible.  Students are required to have and use a lock for their locker.  Only P.E. related items are necessary in the locker rooms. Leave bags in your class locker.  School is not responsible for items lost or stolen. All lost or stolen items need to be reported to your teacher and the school counsellor.

 Students are expected to go to the locker room for showers when directed by the instructor.  Class ends when students are dismissed to leave by their instructor.

 Students are responsible for their personal belongings  Lost/misplaced items should be reported to a teacher after an adequate search.  Lost & Found articles may be retrieved by visiting the P.E. Equipment Assistant’s office.  It is strongly suggested that students write their names on the inside of their clothes and gym shoes with a waterproof marker to facilitate return.  Although the locker rooms are secured during each class period, occasional thefts do occur. Report thefts to your PE teacher and to the counsellor immediately.

 Physical & emotional safety IS IMPORTANT AT ALL TIMES.  Appropriate student behavior is vital for maintaining a safe learning environment.  You are expected to use P.E. equipment correctly and in the manner intended.  Endangering others and behaving in an unsafe manner will result in appropriate consequences.

PE is an active participation class. Students will engage in physical activities which may be strenuous, challenging and new. PE students are expected to engage in and contribute to activities to the best of their own ability on any given day. POSITIVE PARTICIPATION PRODUCES POSITIVE RESULTS!
