3D cameras in Photoshop

A Photoshop document with one 3D object Photoshop document with one layer, from which a 3D cone has been made

To understand the difference between manipulating 3D objects and 3D cameras it is useful to turn on the mesh which represents the ground plane

Making the ground plane visible The 3D panel has been opened

Making the ground plane visible At the bottom of the 3D panel, there is a button for toggling the ground plane between being visible and invisible

Making the ground plane visible The ground plane has become visible

Making the ground plane visible We have used a 3D object manipulation tool to raise the cone higher above the ground plane

The ground plane always remains stationary in space And, because we have not moved our camera, it is in the same position in the two screenshots below But, since we have used a 3D object manipulation tool to raise the cone, the cone appears in a different position in the second screenshot

The 3D camera and the ground plane Choose the camera tool set and...

The 3D camera and the ground plane... when we move the camera, the appearance of the ground plane changes because the position of the camera's eye, relative to the ground, has changed

The 3D camera and the ground plane When we move the camera, the relative positions of the cone and the ground plane appear to change But their relative positions are actually unchanged

The 3D camera and the ground plane Let's move the camera so that its eye is roughly at the same height in XYZ space as the ground place The ground plane appears like a line in our camera lens –the ground plane does not appear horizontal because our camera is tilted a little bit We can now see the height of the cone above the ground

The object and the ground plane We can now use the object manipulation tool set to move the cone so that it is sitting on the ground plane

The 3D camera and the ground plane Using the camera manipulation tool set, we can see a 3D view of the cone sitting on the ground plane

And, now for an exercise Tackle Exercise 19
