Linda R. Coney – 24th April 2009 MOM Update Linda R. Coney 14 September, 2009
Linda R. Coney – 14 Sept 2009 Outline Target Taking Data/Operations Documentation Electrical Continued Run Plan …..
Linda R. Coney – 14 Sept 2009 Target Operations & Data Taking Ran 8 hours Tues, 10 hours Thurs, & 14 hours Sat Used 23,500 target pulses Target operation studies u Searching for ideal timing wrt ISIS cycle u Searching for ideal depth into beam u Studies with ISIS running at 50 Hz u Took data with modified cap bank voltages Beam loss vs Particle Rate study u Fix target timing and adjust dip depth u Take data at 100 mV, 200 mV, 300 mV, 400 mV, 500 mV beam losses Pion beam at 333 MeV/c Positron beam at 150 MeV/c Pion to Muon beam at 252 MeV/c
Linda R. Coney – 14 Sept 2009 Target Operations Beamloss (in Sector 7) for the entire run Note that there does seem to be two distinct peaks although Paul has only fitted a single gaussian.
Linda R. Coney – 14 Sept 2009 Target Operations Shows that the previous double peak effect is not due to the target, remember that the target usually shows a characteristic double peak structure due to the inhererent 0.15mm position resoulution and the exact pulse by pulse capture position. The theory is that this is a real effect due to the ISIS beam wandering about in a cyclic (and repeatable) pattern. There was no change in the delay setting over this period.
Linda R. Coney – 14 Sept 2009 Target Operations The plot shows the Beam Centre Distance of the target over time for the entire Saturday shift. The double peak effect can be clearly seen but the important point is that the target was absolutely stable over this prolonged run period. Also the higher points at the beginning and end of the run are when the target was lowered and raised respectively.
Linda R. Coney – 14 Sept 2009 Recent Data Run 972 Sept pion beam 333 MeV/c with 500mV losses protons

Linda R. Coney – 14 Sept 2009 Recent Data Run1006_Sept122009_pimuBeam MeV/c 120 pulses
Linda R. Coney – 14 Sept 2009 Operations Updated documentation about 90% done u Still need a few updates Some trips of beamline magnets DAQ having some trouble with new fADCs u Possible fix this weekend “invalid” alarms constantly going off on alarm handler extremely taxing/annoying Electrical
Linda R. Coney – 14 Sept 2009 Next Run Plan for this week: u Commission Decay Solenoid s Set beamline to pion optics s Scan through decay solenoid current settings s Calibrate B field by comparing to simulation s Look at beam profile in FNAL detectors and TOF0, TOF1 u Optimize Upstream Beamline s Marco and Chris Rogers s Optimize Q1-Q3 s Move quads to maximize rates in detectors
