LEARNING SHAPES THROUGH MOVEMENT Alexandra Miller Erin Daly

What’s Going OnWhat’s Going On Kindergarten Combination of movement and shapes –Circle, Square, Triangle, Rectangle Focus on multiple intelligences –Gardner theory Group activity Understanding movement to manipulate world around them

ObjectivesObjectives 1.Students will learn to recognize, analyze and generalize fundamental shapes. 2.Students will collaboratively work together in groups to synthesize their understanding and recognition of shapes, while using their interpersonal intelligences. 3.Students will engage in movement to explore how they can use their bodies to make sense of shapes using Gardener’s theory of bodily-kinesthetic and spatial relationships

Day 3Day 3 Review previous material Introduction to movement - Pre-discussion - Warm-up Making shapes with our bodies - Open-ended - Instructional “Simon Says” Journals

Day 5Day 5 “Simon Says” Final Presentation - Groups of 4 - Mapping out patterns using 4 shapes - Present pattern to the class Question/Answer period

EvaluationEvaluation Rubric scale –1 through 3 Based on: – social interactions, improvement, effort, communication skills, journal entries and final presentation Journal entries Progression of ideas
