D’Aspremont et al. (1979) show analytically that, in general the strategic effect dominates over the direct one  final result: maximum differentiation. Impact of t on the intensity of price competition (that determines the strategic effect) and on the location decision: If t is low, each firm try to separate from its rival to avoid the strategic effect.
