Certificate of Media Convergence: How to Develop a Media Convergence Education Program With Minimal Impact on Curriculum, Faculty and Resources

Certificate Goal – To educate SJ&B students on best practices in media convergence Certificate Objectives - To make SJ&B students competitive for employment in converged media operations To provide SJ&B students the opportunity to work collaboratively between sequences To facilitate academic coordination and collaboration between SJ&B sequences To exercise and improve the SJ&B model for media convergence education To validate the use of Manila/Frontier as the Web CMS platform for media convergence education within the SJ&B To encourage faculty use of all relevant technology in each sequence

And now…a word from our sponsors Program must deliver a measurable advantage to our graduates as they seek employment in their chosen field. Program must build upon the School’s core competency of original newsgathering and reporting – not merely re-purposing print/broadcast content for online distribution. Program must support the School’s broad definition of media convergence as a collaborative, cross-media newsgathering process rather than strictly digital storytelling and online publication Program must allow students to “op-in,” rather than a forced cross- curriculum solution. Program must not jeopardize or impact the School’s ACEJMC accreditation.
