Habitat History Founded in 1976 by Linda and Millard Fuller Started idea at Koinonia Farm in Americus, GA Farm was run by biblical scholar Clarence Jordan In 1975 Habitat for Humanity Intl was started 1984 former president Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter started the Jimmy Carter Work Project in NYC Their involvement sparked interest in Habitat and helped to increase the number of affiliates around the country

Habitat Today Has built and Rehabilitated more than 300,000 homes Helped house over 1.5 million people Habitat is in over 3,000 communities A new Habitat house is completed somewhere in the world every 24 minutes.

How to Obtain a House Families apply to local affiliate Families are selected on base of need, willingness to become partners, and ability to pay back the loan Each Habitat family must complete a minimum of 500 hours of sweat equity before moving into house Homes are sold to homeowners without a profit and financed with affordable loans
