Paul Drumm 9 Feb 2004 MICE at RF system: power source, distribution Paul Drumm RAL Ambitious title!
Paul Drumm 03 Mar 2004 RF Baseline Design RF Power Design driven by cost issues (no one has the funds) 2 Amplifiers from LBNL = 4 MW total 1 or 2 Amplifiers from CERN = 4 MW total (next week?) –If 1 amplifier – needs a bigger drive? Spare TH116 Tubes from ISIS Split or more amplifiers? –Hybrid device no satisfactory progress ok average but not peak power need to provide gas insulation (pk voltage > avg. voltage) –Assume that we do R&D (trials) when we have the equipment Need both cavities and one amplifier circuit Test out a hybrid circuit driving two cavities Fall back is to provide one amplifier chain per cavity
Paul Drumm 03 Mar 2004 Progress since… December LBNL –Discussed shipping equipment to RAL –Two 2MW power amplifier circuits –Three (300kW) driver circuits –4616 test stand –LBNL loan – to be written off (eventually)
Paul Drumm 03 Mar 2004 … December At LBNL –Stripping down for transport –Cleaning –Packing At RAL –Point of contact ?
Paul Drumm 03 Mar 2004 Staff… Roy Church –Used up quota of days –No Roy till April RF group at the Daresbury SRS –Mike Dykes (group leader) –Andy Moss (senior RF Engineer) –plus two more –MD & AM will be at the col’ab. mtg ASTeC
Paul Drumm 03 Mar 2004 Plan for late 2004 Limited funds –Berkeley RF system to DL –Strip down and make a technical assessment of the equipment Cost to refurbish Confirm equipment is serviceable –6 month overlap with Roy Review RF design in the light of CERN RF proposal
Paul Drumm 03 Mar 2004 For next FY Setting up a test-stand at DL –Hall and facilities available –Need to have got through GW2 i.e. be in full funding mode
