W-ILLiad is your Meeting Active participation is critical to the meeting outcomes and future of OCLC ILLiad. Presentations focus on how we work with ILLiad with an eye towards Enhancement Requests or Workaround Solutions. Presentations and resources (scripts, web pages, word templates, etc.) will be made available on the user’s meeting website by June 20 th. We appreciate your feedback about the user’s meeting, we want to make it even better next year – there will be a web survey sent to you following our meeting.

Waves of Requests UserExpectations

From Mail to Fax to Ariel to Odyssey How far has technology taken us? More, Faster… Better research? Or confusing learning process with systems process… The IT solution needs us? Our users need us! Building new resource sharing capabilities and systems requires us.Building new resource sharing capabilities and systems requires us. The future of resource sharing depends on our ideas and our communication. Future of Service Integration We have an important responsibility to make sense of what is going on in Resource Sharing, and not surprisingly, it’s about the entire learning process. In making sense of the learning process, we have the opportunity to customize information access with learning systems. A resource of interest… New Strategic Directions – British Library One of the best examples of this is the British Library’s “New Strategic Directions” where a key enabling strategy is to focus on the user: “Develop an integrated approach to service provision so that users can easily access the range of services which are of value to them.” p. 6

Library Service Integration & Redesign Explorations into new service designs… Distance Education Library ServicesDistance Education Library Services Integrated Service Points (Desks)Integrated Service Points (Desks) One Request System (MIT)One Request System (MIT) Library Research and Pre-Service “Pre-service redesign involves streamlining the activation of a service… front-end processes that require customer’s participation before they receive the core services are unwanted chores the customer must endure.” (Berry, p. 270) To balance user need to learn service and resource systems with their priority need to build knowledge, we need to re- examine our interactive points with users.

Emerging Integration Toolkits for Users Scholar’s Box: “At the core of current IU work is the Scholar's Box: a tool that will enable faculty, teachers, students, and the public to create, manipulate, annotate, and share personal collections of digital materials gathered from multiple sources and repositories — core activities in both scholarship and teaching... ” Scholar's BoxScholar's Box ARL’s Scholar’s Portal: “The project seeks to provide software tools for an academic community to have a single point of access on the Web to find high-quality information resources and, to the greatest extent possible, to deliver the information and related services directly to the user's desktop.“ What needs are these tools addressing?

Other emerging resources to learn and participate in… OCLC’s Environmental Scan: Standards: NCIP / ISO / IPIG (& more alphabet soup) IPIG protocol for ISO: NISO: OCLC: Integrated Research/Resources Approaches Information Literacy & Access Services, see bibliography Shibboleth: Direct Lending Direct Delivery:
